Designed and manufactured at our Sheffield facility, the frames provide a robust, practical solution for supporting solar installations, combining thoughtful design with the quality and durability synonymous with Hill Pumps.

The project attracted significant national attention, with the solar panel frames featured across BBC News, The One Show and Sky News, bringing our Sheffield engineering and renewable energy capabilities to a nationwide audience.

We were also delighted to welcome Katie White MP to see the project first-hand and learn more about the engineering, manufacturing and innovation behind the solution. Katie White has an extensive background in climate policy and is currently the UK’s Minister of State for Climate Transition.

For Hill, the project represents more than a new product. It demonstrates how over 180 years of British engineering experience can be applied to the technologies shaping a cleaner, more sustainable future. Hill Pumps has manufactured in Sheffield since 1841 and now includes solar panel mounting systems among its engineering offering.

When an energy company and housing association required a secure solution for a social housing solar project, they approached Hill to help solve a practical installation challenge.

The solar inverters serving each property needed to be installed externally at ground level, meaning the equipment required additional protection from both the elements and unauthorised access.

Our engineering team developed and manufactured bespoke solar inverter enclosures, designed specifically for the requirements of the project.

When we were approached to help develop a mounting solution for a new plug-in solar system, our engineering team was presented with an exciting challenge: create a robust and practical solar panel frame suitable for a new generation of accessible domestic renewable energy.

With plug-in solar representing a new product category for the UK market, the complete system needed to meet the new Government requirements and safety standards being introduced for plug-in solar technology. Hill worked to develop and manufacture a purpose-designed mounting frame as part of the compliant system.
