Hill Pumps Renewable Energy Projects Make National Headlines
It’s been an exciting period for renewable energy at Hill, as a number of our recent solar projects have taken our Sheffield engineering expertise into a rapidly developing area of UK energy.
From the manufacture of innovative solar panel frames and mounting solutions to solar inverter enclosures for social housing projects, we’re increasingly using our manufacturing capabilities to help customers turn new renewable energy concepts into practical, production-ready solutions.
And recently, some of that work has found itself in the national spotlight.
Sheffield Engineering on BBC’s The One Show and Sky News
One of our most exciting recent projects has involved the manufacture of frames for plug-in solar technology, designed to offer a practical approach to generating renewable electricity at home.
The project attracted national media attention, with Hills’ solar panel frames appearing across BBC News, BBC’s The One Show and Sky News, taking a piece of Sheffield engineering to a nationwide audience. For us, the attention was particularly rewarding because the project demonstrates something that has always been at the heart of Hill: the ability to apply established engineering knowledge to new challenges.
While renewable energy represents an exciting and fast-developing market, the fundamentals of good manufacturing remain the same: thoughtful design, quality materials, reliable production and products engineered to perform.
Welcoming Katie White MP
The project also gave us the opportunity to welcome Katie White OBE MP to see the technology and the engineering behind it first-hand.
Katie White is MP for Leeds North West and, as of October 2026, serves as the UK’s Minister of State for Climate Transition at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. She has a longstanding background in climate policy, including work with Friends of the Earth and WWF-UK. [gov.uk]
Her visit provided an opportunity to discuss both the potential of plug-in solar and the role that UK engineering and manufacturing businesses can play as renewable technologies develop.
