The Beginning

Founded and still based in Sheffield, England, during the height of the Industrial Revolution. Originally established as an engineering and manufacturing firm, the company quickly became known for its precision and quality.

1907

Incorporation

In 1907, the company was one of the earliest to incorporate as a Limited Liability Company and became, and continues to be, at the forefront of fluid transfer technology.

Amongst the early products, under the long established trademark Nesthill, was an air compressor pump designed for a veterinary surgeon John Boyd Dunlop which was developed to inflate the prototype pneumatic tyre he had invented for his bicycle.

War Innovation

Designed and produced equipment in close co-operation with the Home Office including a variety of pumps and other fire fighting equipment and canvas fire buckets.

During the Sheffield Blitz in December 1940 the firm suffered considerable damage.

Post War Rebuilding

A permanent new press shop and other new buildings were completed in 1950 replacing the emergency rebuilding done during the war.

At this time, goods were illustrated in two colour catalogues. Goods included driving mirrors, especially those for buses and trucks, a variety of syringes, pump connectors, sprayers, and hose clips as well as pumps.

New Beginnings

In 1992 John Hewins took over the company and a move to Meadowbrook Park in Halfway, Sheffield followed.

Here the company went from strength to strength including the design and manufacture of a jet engine inhibitor rig for aircraft working in hostile environments.

The jet engine inhibitor is based on the principle of an old Hills Horticultural spray.
